United Benefit Advisors Hires New CEO

United Benefit Advisors (UBA) named Les McPhearson as the organization’s next chief executive officer.

McPhearson, who carries more than 15 years of experience in the insurance and benefits industries, will be based in UBA’s Chicago office. Prior to joining UBA, McPhearson held the role of vice president for product innovation at Trustmark Voluntary Benefit Solutions, where he led the development of the firm’s marketing strategies. He also had responsibility for developing and enacting market-driven approaches to new business opportunities and service offerings.

In a statement from UBA, McPhearson says it will be critical in the years ahead for all stakeholders in the benefits industry to work together in order to create a more efficient system—one that can reasonably assure good outcomes for participants.

“The entire industry is dealing with unprecedented change—change among insurers, providers, the government, employers and employees alike,” he says. “We are seeing a much greater focus on value-based and bundled care arrangements, accountable care and the ‘consumerization’ of health insurance.”

Since the retirement industry can be a difficult one for participants to understand, McPhearson says retirement benefits-related services are “at the top of the list of opportunities for advisers.”

A former Lieutenant in the United States Navy, McPhearson received his undergraduate degree at Samford University and an M.B.A. from the University of Louisville.
