New Jersey took the top spot in three key measures of financial capability, according to research released by the FINRA Investor Education Foundation. The foundation last year revealed results of its U.S. Financial Capability Study, but has now released a state-by-state analysis. New Jersey came out on top for the number of individuals who reported they spend less than their household income (48.7%) and have rainy day funds (47.8%).

The median length of time that full-time workers stay in their jobs ticked up slightly in 2010, continuing a slow increase in job tenure that began in 2004, according to a new report by the nonpartisan Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI). Among all wage and salary workers age 25 or older, EBRI found the median job tenure was 5.2 years in 2010.

Two in three companies (67%) responding to a CareerBuilder survey reported that a bad hire has adversely affected their business in the last year. Nearly one in four hiring managers (24%) said one bad hire cost their business more than $50,000 in the last year. Four in 10 said that one bad hire cost them more than $25,000. Of employers who made a bad hire, 36% said they think they made a mistake hiring someone because they needed to fill the job quickly.

Forty-four percent of workers polled by ComPsych said they lose an hour or more per day in productivity due to stress, up from 42% in 2009, and nearly a third (32%) said they lose 15 to 30 minutes per day in productivity.
