ETF Assets Pass $507 Billion in August

The combined assets of the nation's exchange-traded funds (ETFs) increased by $18.25 million, or 3.7%, to $507.11 billion in August, according to the Investment Company Institute (ICI).

Assets in domestic equity ETFs increased $3 million in August 2006, with all the growth among Sector/Industry ETFs. Global equity ETF assets rose $4 million during the month, according to the ICI data.

Bond ETF assets remained at the same level in August.

During August, the value of all ETF shares issued exceeded that of shares redeemed by $15.62 billion. So far this year, ETFs have experienced a net issuance of $59.31 billion, according to the ICI.

Over the past 12 months, ETF asset have increased $147.22 billion, or 40.9%. Assets in domestic equity ETFs increased $83.16 billion since August 2006, and global equity ETF assets rose $55.29 billion during this period.
